I experienced the pleasure of travelling to Churchill, MB on Friday to visit the polar bears on the west side of Hudson’s Bay. They are preparing for their time on the ice and will gain weight once they are able to hunt again, but they were in pretty good shape. At this time of year, they spend most of their day resting to conserve energy / body fat. We did find a couple of more active bears who played. One thing that amazed me was how silent they were.
Unlike the snorkel tours in Maui where Jimmy Buffet songs are played full blast, it was important for us to be quiet as well. All in all, it was a nice way to spent the day, in peace, watching these beautiful animals wait. We could learn from their patience.
